Packing for your dog

We’re all going on a summer holiday

There are plenty of dog friendly holiday cottages and hotels throughout the UK and part of the excitement of visiting a new area is the chance to explore new surroundings and enjoy new experiences. The last thing you want is a trip to the Vet, but with a little planning you can all have a lovely time.

Packing for your dog

Spend a little time thinking about what you should take away with you – a happy Labrador makes for a stress free holiday for you!

  • Water and food bowls
Most owners don’t like you using their china!
  • Your dog’s bed and blankets
Owners also don’t like you letting them sleep on their beds! Your dog is more likely to feel ‘at home’ if they have their own bed to sleep in.
  • A travel bowl and water holder
Essential if you plan to do some long walks or day trips.
  • Some favourite toys
Remember that sticks will splinter so something that floats is a good idea and a frisbee or ball will entertain the whole family too!
  • Dog towels
Some owners will provide them but take a couple of dog towels for drying off your dog and wiping muddy paws.
  • Throws or blankets
If you are worried about your dog rubbing against the furniture, take a couple of throws with you to cover sofas and armchairs.
  • Lead, poo bags, whistle, harnesses, and food
Always sensible to have but it may also be worth packing a few spares
  • Medication
Think about things that are not used on a regular basis; ear cleaner, allergy medication, or pain relief that may be needed after long walks.
  • A tick remover
  • Up-to-date identification tag
Make sure your dog’s collar has an identification tag with your mobile number so if they get lost they can be reunited with you as quickly as possible.
  • And finally…..
We are talking Labradors here so…..don’t forget some treats – after all it is your dog’s holiday as well!
