Funfest at Maidenbrook – a sunny success!
On 12th July, we were delighted to be invited to run a Labrador Rescue Trust stall at Funfest at Maidenbrook Country Park near Taunton – the park’s biggest annual event. With live music and activities running from noon until 10pm, hundreds of visitors were expected throughout the day. Although the planned dog show was (very sensibly!) cancelled due to the soaring temperatures, the event still went ahead in full sunny spirit.
Our newest volunteer, Gill Attrill, put in a tremendous effort in the lead-up to the event, gathering wonderful prizes for a Tombola and setting up the stall on the day with help from her husband and a friend. Despite the heat reaching 29°C, Gill stayed smiling and was joined in the afternoon by one of our brilliant foster carers, Rose Mostyn.
While the hot weather meant many attendees didn’t stay as long – and understandably, most dog owners decided to keep their pets at home – we were still thrilled to welcome a few familiar faces who came along to show their support.
The Tombola was a real hit, with a “prize every time” proving especially popular! The children’s Lucky Dip was also a success with the water pistol prizes proving to be most popular on a very hot day!
We raised a fantastic £122, and just as importantly, spread awareness of The Labrador Rescue Trust’s work across the local community.
