Chip’s Chompers

For the basic recipe you will need:

  • 260g Wholewheat flour
    • For a WGF alternative try Gram Flour instead (Chip’s favourite!)
  • ½ tablespoon Coconut oil
  • 1 Egg – beaten
  • 1 stock cube – choose your own flavour
  • 100 ml hot water

How To;

  • Preheat your oven to 180c/Fan 160c or gas mark 4
  • Dissolve the stock cube into the water
  • Place all ingredients into a bowl and mix all together to make a dough
  • Knead for 2 mins
  • Turn out onto a floured surface and roll to an even thickness of about ¼ inch
  • Cut out your treats with your chosen cutter – we think stars or bones look really cute – but your dog won’t mind what shape they are!
  • Place onto a baking tray lined with baking parchment
  • Bake until golden – check after 20 mins
  • The treats must be completely cold before sealing in an airtight container…..they’ll keep for 4 months, but will probably be gobbled up before then!

Be creative – you can skip the stock cube and add:

  • Marmite (Chip’s favourite) – this makes your biscuits super tasty and it is naturally gluten free with lots of vitamins – just as 2 teaspoons to your recipe
  • Grated cheese – just add 100g of grated cheese (or a mix of cheddar and parmesan) to your recipe – but bear in mind that these are higher calorie treats
  • Cranberries – great for urinary health, add 25g of chopped, dried unsweetened cranberries added to the cheese and cut into star shapes.
  • Herbs – you can add 2tablespoons of Parsley and Mint to your recipe – no promises but these can help to freshen breath
  • Fennel – you can add ¼ teaspoon to give a pleasant aniseed flavor and aid digestion
  • Ginger – you can add 1 tablespoon of grated fresh ginger to give a nice spicy lemony flavor and is well known for its stomach settling properties

You should NEVER add

  • Alcohol
  • Caffeine
  • Chocolate
  • Citrus
  • Grapes or Raisins
  • Macadamia nuts
  • MSG
  • Mushrooms
  • Garlic
